Core Training
04/08/2007
As a professional kayaker I competed at World Championship level in whitewater kayaking, European Championships in surf kayaking, and continue to push the limits in watersports. I'm heavily involved in testing and R+D for Nookie Xtreme Sports Eqpt www.nookie.co.uk, which can involve some pretty extreme and extended missions to some of the most ferocious waves and rapids in the world. So it's very important for me to be in great shape at all times.
Canoeing and kayaking are excellent all-body training both for strength and CV efficiency, but this can effectively be either replaced or supported by off the water training.
I find a combination of free weights/medicine ball, cable work and incline bench (abs) workouts an excellent training regime for kayaking, with the emphasis on rotation (especially diagonal wood-chops and single leg diagonal chain systems with free weights)
Constant movement paterns using all muscle groups from the calves right up through to the shoulders and arms. I alternate between standing, sitting, and Swiss Ball for a variety of weight and cable exercises that will train all muscle combinations I've started to use the Prodaps system over the last few months and during this trail period the results and easy to use factors have been fantastic.
Prodaps safely delivers power and core stability just by following the pictures. I have used Prodaps to create a training routine, hope you enjoy using it. Go into the pre set programmes to look at the system I have been using.
